Round 1, update 1

   1. Detroit- Matthew Stafford(QB:Georgia)-

John Kitna was sent to the Cowboys, Dan Orvlovsky still remains a free agent, Drew Stanton can't remain healthy enough to actually play, and Daunte Culpepper is certainly not the long-term answer.  All signs all certainly pointing to the Lions selecting their franchise quarterback with the first pick.

   2. St. Louis- Jason Smith(OT:Baylor)-

The Rams offensive line last season was just that...offensive.  And it looks as though they are shopping Orlando Pace around for a third rounder. If they honor Torry Holt's wishes and release him, Crabtree might become a candidate here.

   3. Kansas City- Eugene Monroe(OT:Virginia)-

The Chiefs will want to protect their new investment by selecting Monroe with this pick.

   4. Seattle- Michael Oher(OT:Ole Miss)-

Given the fact that this is probably Walter Jones' last season in Seattle, the Seahawks will draft his replacement in Oher.

   5. Cleveland- Aaron Curry(OLB:Wake Forrest)-

Given Curry's versatility and Cleveland's need for all linebackers, the Browns are happy drafting him here.

   6. Cincinnati- Andre Smith(OT:Alabama)-

With Stacey Andrews going to Philly, Levi Jones' poor performance last season, and the fact that they haven't pursued a FA tackle, I tend to believe that they'll select Smith with this pick.

   7. Oakland- B.J. Raji(DT:BC)-

If the Raiders want to even be considered respectable, they must improve their run defense.

   8. Jacksonville- Michael Crabtree(WR:Texas Tech)-

With no true number one wide receiver, Jacksonville will take a chance on Crabtree.

   9. Green Bay- Brian Orakpo(DE/OLB:Texas)-

With the Packers moving to a 3-4 defense next season, Orakpo would be a great candidate for the outside rusher spot.

  10. San Francisco- Eben Britton(OT:Arizona)-

The 49ers are looking for someone to play opposite of Joe Staley.

  11. Buffalo- Everette Brown(DE:Florida State)-

The only way to stop the juggernaut that is the New England Patriots, the Bills will need to be able to apply more pressure.

  12. Denver- Rey Maualuga(MLB:USC)-

With the Broncos also changing to the 3-4 defense, they will need another inside linebacker to play alongside Andra Davis.

  13. Washington- Brian Cushing(OLB:USC)-

The Redskins number one concern really is offensive tackle.  Since there's not one left that's worth selecting with this pick, they will look to replace Marcus Washington with Brian Cushing.

  14. New Orleans- Malcolm Jenkins(FS/CB:Ohio State)-

With the Saints Offense scoring so many points, it's hard to imagine them being an 8-8 team.  That's why they'll use this pick to improve their secondary.

  15. Houston- Peria Jerry(DT:Ole Miss)-

With the signing of Antonio Smith, the Texans look to add even more firepower to their defensive line.

  16. San Diego- Tyson Jackson(DE:LSU)-

The loss of Igor Olshansky left a vacancy at the defensive end position.

  17. New York Jets- Mark Sanchez(QB:USC)-

With Sanchez still on the board, the Jets cannot pass on him.

  18. Chicago- Michael Johnson(DE:Georgia Tech)-

The Bears will look to return the defense to their regular position in the top ten.

  19. Tampa Bay- Josh Freeman(QB:Kansas State)-

Neither Brain Griese, nor Luke McCown is the long term answer for Tampa Bay.  The Buccaneers new coach selects his franchise quarterback here.

  20. Detroit(from Dallas)- James Laurinaitis(MLB:Ohio State)-

There's really not a position that cannot be upgraded on an 0-16 team.  The Lions will pick the "quarterback of the defense" with this pick.

  21. Philadelphia- Chris Wells(RB:Ohio State)-

Adds the power to the speed and versatility of Brian Westbrook.

  22. Minnesota- Alex Mack(C:California)-

With Matt Birk still a free agent, the Vikings look to replace him.

  23. New England- Vontae Davis(CB:Illinois)-

Even though they signed Shawn Springs, the Patriots jump at the chance to draft Davis.

  24. Atlanta- Brandon Pettigrew(TE:Oklahoma State)-

The Falcons will look to give Matt Ryan the top flight tight end he lacked last season.

  25. Miami- Aaron Maybin(DE/OLB:Penn State)-

The Dolphins could use Maybin to start opposite Joey Porter, and rotate in Matt Roth to help Porter last through the season and into the playoffs.  He should also help keep the offense more honest by keeping them from double-teaming Porter every play.

  26. Baltimore- Jeremy Macklin(WR:Mizzu)-

With this pick, the Ravens will look for a wide receiver to start opposite Derrick Mason...and then eventually replace him.

  27. Indianapolis- Evander Hood(DT:Mizzu)-

The Colts need somebody else on their team that can stop the run besides Bob Sanders.

  28. Philadelphia(from Carolina)- Sean Smith(S/CB:Utah)-

Even though they signed Sean Jones, the Eagles pick Smith to either start, or push Jones' production.

  29. New York Giants- Darrius Heyward-Bey(WR:Maryland)-

Heyward-Bey gives Eli that big-play receiver when Plaxico Burress is shooting himself in the leg.

  30. Tennessee- Darius Butler(CB:UCONN)-

All of the Titans top reserve cornerbacks are free agents, and Nick Harper will be 35.

  31. Arizona- Knowshon Moreno(RB:Georgia)-

The Cardinals are hoping that Moreno will be the running back that Edgerrin James was supposed to be.

  32. Pittsburgh- Max Unger(C:Oregon)-

The Steelers look to upgrade from Justin Hartwig's 6.5 surrendered sacks.
